Small to say the least

Title: Just a Little Change

Materials:

  • Color pencil
  • Cut paper
  • Acrylic paint

Dimensions: 9" x 12"

Description: Just a little change is a cut paper piece. Everything except the background is cut paper. The designs in the hair, clothes, and foliage were all hand-drawn and rendered with color pencils. I wanted to work on my craft and there was no better way to do that than with a cut paper piece. Belle's hair was of my own design and I have to admit it was a lot of fun painting and drawing the designs for the hair and clothes. However, I think on the next piece I might try to use a ready-made design or fabric.

I am obligated to put the disclaimer that this is not an original piece and the photo that this was rendered from can be viewed here.

Title: When Life Gives You Lemons

Materials:
  • Graphite pencil
  • Color pencil
  • Ebony pencil

Dimensions: 9 3/4" x 12"

Description: "When Life Gives You Lemons"  is number four of the Color Splash Series. It is mainly done in graphite and ebony pencil with color pencil. This piece was just something quick I wanted to do. I chose different pencils on this to help hone my craft issues and work on holding the pencil so that my hand didn't smudge the work.

Insatiable Birdie

Title: Insatiable Birdie

Medium:

  • Color pencils
  • Oil pastels
Dimensions: 26 1/4" x 10 3/4"

Description: "Insatiable Birdie" is also one of my favorite pieces. It is both a color study and a movement study. The dipping bird was colored with color pencil. The background space was done in oil pastel. "Insatiable Birdie" is a study on the color wheel. The first panel colors are warm colors. The second panel is strictly cool colors. And the third panel has tertiary colors. It is also an intense study on movement as the dipping bird was in constant movement as the piece was being made.

Title: Like the Dew in the Morning

Medium:
  • Graphite pencil
  • Color pencil
Dimensions: 7" x 10"

Description: "Like the Dew in the Morning" is number three in the Color Splash series. The flower is rendered in graphite pencil while the dew drops are rendered in color pencil. I chose to draw this piece because I love working with blurred backgrounds. I simplified the background a lot and made it much darker to pop the flower forward to the middle ground while the dew drops, being in such large contrast since they are color, immediately set in the foreground.

An Evening in the Park

Title: Evening in the Park

Medium:
  • Cut paper
  • Oil pastels
  • Paint marker
Dimensions: 14 3/4" x 10"

Description: "Evening in the Park" is another monochromatic study done entirely in oil pastel on Illustration board. The young girl blowing bubbles was cut out from card stock paper and painted with a metallic golf paint marker. The piece is a simple color study and medium experiment. I chose a red pastel for this piece because I wanted to convey the feeling of a sunset.

Beyonca

Title: Beyonca

Medium:
  • Charcoal
  • Gesso
  • Acrylic
Dimensions: 23 1/4" x 16 1/2"

Description: The second piece in the Color Splash series. "Beyonca" is an example of two-dimensional and three-dimensional rendering. Painted in the same medium as "Ariel," "Beyonca" differs though because there are some things, such as her hat and jacket, that are rendered smoothly to contrast the cut paper feel of the rest of the piece.
